v4 of Autodesk T-Splines Plugin for Rhino released

Postby Matt Sederberg » Mon Jan 19, 2015 4:48 am

Version 4 of Autodesk T-Splines Plug-in for Rhino has been released. This version is highlighted by Grasshopper integration, modeling improvements, and better integration with Rhino 5.

NOTE: T-Splines v4 will only run on Rhino 5 64-bit; it will not run on Rhino 4 or Rhino 5 32-bit.

New feature videos for these release highlights are available on the T-Splines Basic Tutorials page.

Grasshopper integration. Many T-Splines commands are now exposed for generative modeling inside Grasshopper to help you explore complex shapes you may not have considered before. For a list and videos of these commands, scroll to the bottom of the Basic Tutorials page.

Modeling improvements. New commands like the Knife command, significant improvements to T-Splines creasing and underlying math and a new Extrude along curve command make T-Splines v4 easier to use and more powerful.

Better integration with Rhino 5. Natively written for Rhino 5 64-bit, T-Splines v4 takes advantage of new optimizations available in Rhino 5 and offers enhanced integration, including better support for histoy and xrefs and editable menus.

70% off for existing customers
If you are an existing T-Splines customer, regardless of when you purchased, you can get 77% off your copy of T-Splines v4 for Rhino.
* If you bought T-Splines after 3 July 2013, you can purchase an upgrade through your Autodesk account or through your reseller for roughly the next two months.
* If you bought T-Splines before 3 July 2013, you can buy T-Splines v4 at a 77% discount (close to the same price as an upgrade) at the Autodesk Store (using coupon code TSPLINE) or through your authorized reseller. This discount is available until July 19, 2015.
* If you live in Japan or Korea, this discount is only available through your authorized reseller.

Network licenses
After not being able to sell network licenses for the past several years, we now offer them again with T-Splines v4, both to upgrade your existing network licenses and for new purchase as well. Network licenses are available only through authorized resellers.

Free student licenses
Students and academic institutions can get free copies of all Autodesk software, including version 4 of T-Splines Plug-in for Rhino.

Known issues
  • tsMatch sometimes doesn't allow preview (when refinement is enabled)
  • tsSkin produces poor results
  • The Grasshopper extrude component produces poor results
  • tsPipe history playback sometimes loses modifications made. Re-entering the tsPipe command will work around this

There is currently nothing on the tutorials page that I can see. When I go to the store and try to upgrade it doesn't tell me which version I'm "upgrading" to and I can't find this information anywhere. Given that your tutorials page hasn't been upgraded yet I'm concerned that I might "upgrade" to v3 rather than v4. Is there any way I can verify what I'm getting before I buy it?

Hi Randy,

Not sure what the cause of the error is. My apologies - I'll try to get it sorted out.

In the meantime, you can download the final v4 build from the latest version page or via this direct link.

Hi,

I don't understand how to buy the upgrade. In the past I upgraded if an upgrade was available. I don't know when it was.

The new release could help me on a current project, so I would like to get a quick upgrade. Can I buy an upgrade at the autodesk shop or do I need a new full version? An upgrade cost 190,-€ and a full version cost 255,-€ (with discount). This is not essentially the same price as an upgrade.

Ciao,

Hi Darrell,

Not sure what's going on with the tutorials page. I can see a list of tutorials in chrome, firefox, and ie. Does refreshing the page work for you? What do you see?

About the version for sale, the 2015 version of T-splines for Rhino is T-splines V4. On the product page, it says that it is the 2015 version, which is the version you're looking for. (Sorry, it should be more prominent.)

Hi Micha,

I'm looking into this. Unfortunately today is a public holiday in the US, and so I might not get an answer until some of our eStore team are back at work tomorrow. In the meantime, feel free to download the 30 day free trial of v4.

Hi:

Just installed t-splines 4.0 for Rhino. In the about popup I get that it thinks it's 3.5 r8975,
is this correct?

Also, when I then startup Rhino v5 (64) i don't see the knife command that you've mentioned on any of my tool bars or in the drop down.

Probably something I've done wrong.

Tried installing the r11183 version. but the thought the serial number I obtained from Autodesk is green the product key is red-x'd. Mine is an educational license.
which I'm sure you have on file.

any help would be appreciated.

thanks

Got it and was playing with Grasshopper when I noticed what appears to be a (minor) bug. The TsVertInfo has two output pins called "Star" and described as "Whether the vert is a star point". One of these has True for almost all my verts and one has False. I'm assuming the second is for "regular" points. In any event - they can't both be describing which are star points.

Sorry to keep blabbing about Grasshopper but there is a tsConvert component to convert from BRep to T-Spline. Is there any way to convert from T-Spline to BRep in Grasshopper? Thanks!

Here's what mine is showing. I do have Matrix, but I also have a full license of Tsplines that I had before Gemvision added it to their software.

Not sure why TS 4.0 isn't showing up.........

Okay, I have it loading inside of Matrix, but for some reason I can't seem to get it to load in straight Rhino. I'll have to play around with it later and see what's up?

thanks, looking forward to using v4 once you figure it out. The GH components should be a great help as well. Can't see the new ones either and can't find a v4 GHA file for them.

Doesn't the educational download include the t-splines v4 upgrades or am I stuck in 3.5 land?

Reason I ask is that I already owned v3.4 as a continuous rather than 3 year trial license. According to Matt's announcement the v4 upgrade should be available for my ed license upgrade.

thanks

Okay,

I have it resolved now. Make sure you're opening Rhino 5 64bit version. I had left 32bit version icon on my desktop. LOL! I must have had my dunce cap on this morning.

Hi Al,

You might need to manually uninstall v3.5. The install directory has changed, so it won't overwrite the previous version.

Let me know if that does it.. :)

Thanks, I'll take a look at that. The GH stuff was one of the first things done for this release, so it's very possible that a few problems slipped through.

So, the tsConvert component should be able to do that, but it's often not necessary. A TSpline grasshopper param can convert itself to a BRep when requested. Just hook the TS param to a BRep param and it'll convert automatically.

The main thing that tsConvert is useful for is that it has a TS param on input and a TS param on output (it just passes the data through). The data type itself does all the actual conversions. :D

Hi: I uninstalled the 3.5 version and reinstalled my older 3.4 r8555 which is a full educational licensed version. I understand there is no difference really between the 3.4 r8555 and the 3.5 release.

The version that autodesk downloads is the rhino 32/64 bit 3.5 version and that seems to be what they issued the 3 year license for. Shouldn't that be a 3 year 4.0 download for 64 bit only or does the fact that I have both the 64 and 32 bit versions installed confuse the downloader?

I use a couple of plugins that require the 32 bit version but don't use tsplines for 32 bit work.

the download 3 year v4 "select the software you want" dialog only offers the 2014 version as a choice. When you download the actual v4 version r11183, the product key that you've gotten from the "select software dialog" previously is invalid and only seems to work with the 2014 3.5 version educational download. So that when I use the product key I've received during the v4 install it isn't valid and won't let me proceed. Is there another product code for the correct v4 download?

Hi Al,

It should download 4.0 for 64-bit only. I think there might be a problem with the store's download, which we're looking in to. It's a holiday, so unfortunately it might be a while before it gets sorted out.

In the meantime, you can download the final v4 build from the latest version page or via this direct link.

Please give that a shot and let me know if it works better for you.

Thanks Tom: I actually have downloaded it. Attempted install.

However if I try to install it for the 3 year option it declares my product key as invalid. Serial number is okay. So I can't get past the serial number/product key page to the next install step.

Is there another product key for the v4 64 bit direct download? The one autodesk sent me earlier is A46F1 which is apparently not the right one for the 64 bit v4.

thanks

If I may ask, how badly is tsSkin broken? Are there plans to fix it?
I realize I may be its only user, and that it has always had some bugs; however it is what I use T-Splines for. If it hasn't been improved, ok, but if this is actually a downgrade, or this command is now deprecated, I'd appreciate more complete information.

Thanks,

The product key for v4 64-bit should be A46G1. Was this a commercial purchase or from the student store? Both should be updated now to the new product key, it would be very good to track it down. If you got the serial number before last week, you will probably need a new serial number.

I had a longer answer here, but it looks like what I'm allowed to say is that the differences are due to tax and market differences in different locations.

One thing that I would add is that Fusion 360, one of Autodesk's most recent products, is the same price everywhere in the world.

Hi Bathsheba. Thanks for commenting - your name comes up in pretty much every internal discussion about tsSkin. The curve to surface workflow is very important, but tsSkin has always been difficult to get good results out of. There have been changes in the core surface implementation (like the new crease behaviors) that haven't been accounted for in tsSkin. It also appears that there are unrelated bugs that have crept in.

So, right now tsSkin is pretty broken. I don't think it's possible to get good results out of. It is on the list to fix. Apparently for legal/financial regulation reasons we're not supposed to promise functionality before it's available? If I were you I'd hold off until it's actually fixed though, to make sure.

If you want, I can email you personally when I have fixed tsSkin.

Installed correctly this time. That seemed to be the problem. But as you suggested I do need a new serial number. So I;m currently in the 30 day trial period. Hopefully the site is updated, or will be soon, to include the v4.0 r11183 64 bit option for the educational version.

Hi Sam, all,

I escalated the store issue and it looks like there was an intermittent caching issue (which makes sense since I'd seen this issue just once myself). They have now fixed that, so please go ahead and try to purchase again. You may need to clear the cache in your browser to see the fix.

Al,
Thanks for reporting this - this was my bad - it slipped through the cracks that we'd need to formally request that the version on the Students website be updated. I'm made that request now; I hope to have a date I can share with you soon about when that will be updated on the Students site.

Thanks!

I didn't realize the direct download link you provided wasn't just the trial, but also was the licensed download. I installed that and all seems to be working well.

Matt Sederberg wrote:I escalated the store issue and it looks like there was an intermittent caching issue (which makes sense since I'd seen this issue just once myself). Chrome still gives me the same "File not found!" while Firefox gives me:

Code: Select all
Server Error

Error:

We are currently unable to perform the selected action. Please accept our apologies for this inconvenience. We have been notified and are already working to correct this issue as quickly as possible. Please click your browser's back button and try this action at a later time, or take a different action.

Error Number:  SYS_000001

So perhaps not fixed, but I am settled now that I've used your download link.

Thanks
Sam

Likewise with Sam & Randy

Cache cleared. "File not found" still exists.

This is the case whether using the "Order Tracking" link from the Autodesk Store site or the findmyorder.com site.

Been checking every few hours since yesterday's purchase including the past 10 minutes.

I just can't get to the shopping cart at the Autodesk Store, it keeps popping back to the home page.

EDIT: It was brought to my attention at the Rhino Forum that could be because I'm accessing from BR. Our local store does not carry TSplines

First of all my greetings with v4 release ! Really a pleasure to see that T-Splines continue to develop .

I have been regularily upgrading since v1.3 through v3 , still before Autodesk acquired T-Splines .
My pleasure always ( under T-Spline run ) also was possibility to ask and get answered in human way , as opposed to kind of online ticket support service .

Yesterday I bought v4 upgrade , and installed it Ok . Now bumped into Upgrade Activation issue .
Possibly those who got v3 bought under Autodesk don't run into it .

The thing is , that when running TSActivate , Autodesk window pops up , and asks for Old Serial Number ( which is normal when upgrading ) , and here all stops , as all I have sinve v1.3 through v3 are Internet Activation Keys , of different format .

Could you please help me resolve this matter ? I find nothing suitable as help to resolve this using Autodesk robotized online support .

And also I have no idea where to turn to be heard so to say .

Maybe I ask PayPal to refund the money , and place order for full v4 instead , but then again all money spent on v1-v3 then have no legacy support ...

Otherwise , everything is awsome , as they say

OK, I managed to dodge the web site lock with some VPN software. The installer also failed, stating that there was no Agreement for Brazil. Had to change locale on the computer too.

Installed now.

Now is there a need to rebuild the toolbars?

Can we still get the second install on the Laptop?

Not sure what's different between the more recent successful upgraders and myself.

I resorted to installing Firefox to pull up the "Order Tracking". Clicking on the result, a Firefox window popup appeared, attempted a progress indicator of "0/?" and led to the exact "File not found" message.

And now going back to IE11, reattempting the process gives a result similar to Sam's:

Error:
We are currently unable to perform the selected action. Please accept our apologies for this inconvenience. We have been notified and are already working to correct this issue as quickly as possible. Please click your browser's back button and try this action at a later time, or take a different action.
Error Number: SYS_000001

Even tried this from an older notebook. There, the popup gives a "Download using Browser" button only to kick me back to the generic Autodesk Store homepage. Copied the button's shortcut URL (containing file name and order number) to paste into Firefox. Same deal. Autodesk Store homepage.

Three days of frustration.

Hi Dimitrijs,
Sorry for this frustration. If you bought v3 before the Autodesk acquisition of T-Splines then you should be placing a full order, but you can use a discount coupon to get it at a cheaper price. It sounds like maybe you didn't get this emailed to you; I'll send it to you now. So you're right - you should get a refund on your upgrade, then buy a discounted full license.

Sending you an email now...

Hi Carter,
Sorry for this frustration, and for my slow response; I'm travelling at the moment. Let me get back in touch with the eStore people; will post an update when I have one. Meanwhile, as Ricardo mentions, if you've been able to successfully order and have received your serial number, you can just download the installer from tsplines.com/latestversion.

Best,
Matt

I just scanned down the post - and it sounds like the problem I am having is being experienced by many. I received the V4 release email from Autodesk and having stopped using T-Splines because I missed the upgrade opportunity when Autodesk acquired T-Splines I am now trying to repurchase at the 70% discount. However, when I go to the Autodesk store and click on the purchase link I get a message that says : We can't seem to find the page you're looking for.

Any help would be appreciated.

Ricardo,
I'm not sure what you mean by "rebuild the toolbars?" There are new additions to the Toolbars in v4 but they should just appear for you.

Yes, you can install this license on two computers. http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/pc ... d=18270103

Thanks Matt,
Shortly after yesterday's post, I went to compare the filename in the Autodesk URL versus the one posted by Tom. When I saw they were the same, it lowered my reluctance to go with Plan B. The presumption was that the one hosted on TSplines was still a beta or a release candidate... something I didn't want to put into a production PC.

The update went without problems, serial number applied, and I'm now on v4.0

Hi Randy, to get the discounted version, buy a perpetual license but use the coupon code I emailed you.

To return your upgrade, go to the store.autodesk.com home page, Click Help on the top menu, scroll to the bottom and click "Contact customer service."

Hi there.
German user here, but there are a couple of issues with purchasing v4 through Autodesk.

First, I didn't receive any email with the discount code (I do qualify as I bought tsplines v2 with free v3 upgrade in 2010).
I found the discount code in McNeel's Rhino forum, but I don't know if that's the right way to proceed…
Then the German Autodesk store does list the Tsplines plugin, but to me this seems to be the old version, as the system requirements list "Rhino v5 32 or 64bit"
Also, one can chose between upgrade (160Euro plus VAT - discount code doesn't work) or new license (750 Euro plus VAT, applying the discount code reduces this to 214,82 Euro)
So what do I need to do to purchase version 4?
Buy the upgrade without discount code or buy a new license and use the code?
Is the german Autodesk store up to date or do I need to wait until they specifically list Tsplines 2015?
When will I get my discount code? Or can i use the one found on McNeel's forum?
If I buy now, will I get Version 4 (2015)? Will I be able to download V4 directly from Autodesk or do I need to use the "last version" link on the Tsplines site?

Lots of questions for just one upgrade…
Add to that that Autodesk won't sell software to VAT ID number holders without applying VAT (something that practically any other e-commerce site does) and you have a pretty disastrous way to handle software purchase if You ask me.

The link provided for student download (http://www.autodesk.com/education/free- ... -for-rhino) is version 3.5 and not version 4.0. It is also not installing the Grasshopper tools. Please advise - was hoping to use this software in the NYC AEC hackathon next weekend.

Hi - thanks for your interest. You are right that v4 is not yet on the students website - I am still waiting for an estimated date for getting that on. In the meantime, you can download a free trial of v4 that will be good for a month that could get you through next week.

Thanks,

Hi Norbert,
I will email you the discount code.
Re the German store - I just checked that out and it looks like it's a typo; the "32" should be removed. Otherwise this is the correct version. Thanks for reporting this; it seems like the other languages are fine. I just submitted a request to remove that typo.
You will buy a new license with the coupon code.
You can get the v4 download from the eStore or from the T-Splines website tsplines.com/latestversion; it's the same installer.

Matt

Hi Matt,

Hi Randy, to get the discounted version, buy a perpetual license but use the coupon code I emailed you.

To return your upgrade, go to the store.autodesk.com home page, Click Help on the top menu, scroll to the bottom and click "Contact customer service."

Thanks again, got my Paypal refond today, even with this East Coast storm. :D

Hi - thanks for your interest. You are right that v4 is not yet on the students website - I am still waiting for an estimated date for getting that on. In the meantime, you can download a free trial of v4 that will be good for a month that could get you through next week.

Thanks,

Hi, I just got an update that T-Splines v4 is targeted to be updated on the Education site on February 2nd.

An alternative for those who are struggling with the Autodesk Store or who also want the option of local tech support is to purchase the T-Splines Upgrades or New Licenses from your Local Reseller, we for instance are Authorised Resellers of Rhino & Autodesk Partners, so we can supply T-Splines for Rhino, train you & support you too if needed.

This method of supply avoids the use of the Autodesk On-Line Store.

We are based in the UK. For those outside that region we may also be able to help you find a local supplier too, feel free to get in touch.

Sorry, but I am a little confused with the upgrade costs and time frames...

A. If you are running the latest T-Splines v3.4 but purchased it before 3rd July 2013, then you have to purchase a new licence at 70% off?

B. If you are running the latest T-Splines but purchased after 3rd July you can purchase an upgrade at a cheaper cost then people who bought and supported T-Splines from v1??

C. Can't I just purchase an upgrade without worrying about the dates of when I purchased?

Autodesk store for Australia shows New licence at $288.89 with 70% coupon code. Straight upgrade is $215.00. For me that is a big different.

My original resellers don't seem to selling T-Splines anymore so do I need to purchase a new licence instead of an upgrade?

Hello,

I'd like first to congratulate t-Splines devs for the new improvements, really amazing !

I'd like to purchase, but Autodesk store is probably the most awful I've ever seen...

And sorry if I ask the same question as others, but my English doesn't allow me to understand perfectly :
I use Tsplines since at least 5 years, but I didn't receive any email with a coupon code ( but maybe I missed it ). My Rhino reseller who also sold me T-Splines can't help me, as he lost his rights to sell T-Splines since Autodesk bought it.
I saw that you post a direct link to download, I'll try, since somebody is kind enough to send me a promotion code.

Thanks.

Hi Sando, and all,

Sorry, this must look horribly complex to any normal person :(. The reason why we had to offer an "upgrade" and a "discounted full license" is strictly a technical one that has to do with the licensing software used.

The way the Autodesk store and licensing system is set up, if you are already in that system and had bought a license of T-Splines (which we started to offer on 3rd July 2013), then the standard mechanism to is to offer an upgrade. However, most of our customers bought T-Splines before then, so we wanted to offer a discounted way for them to get v4 - they can't buy an upgrade since they don't have a previous Autodesk license to unlock it with.

As to the size of the difference in price between a discounted new license and an upgrade - we're aware of this, it was unintended, and we are sorting it out - unfortunately it takes a bit longer now than it did with our T-Splines company.

Hi Bathsheba. Thanks for commenting - your name comes up in pretty much every internal discussion about tsSkin.

Oh dear, I am the only user.

Thanks for your honesty about the state of this command; I'll take your advice and not upgrade right now.

If you want, I can email you personally when I have fixed tsSkin.

That should be OK, if it's in the release notes I'll see it.

I also have a question about tsSymmetry which is probably not of general interest. Should I message you about that, or is there someone who that's their specialty?

Hello once more, maybe you missed my post.

Anyway, I tried your direct link.
The price for the upgrade is 192€, without the discount code, as that normal ?
Maybe I misunderstood your previous post, I thought the discount price was 190€.
is that means that the price of 192€ will be discounted by/of 70% ???

Cheers

PS : I hope Juan is fine :D

Hi Olivier,
No, the 70% discount is applied when you use a coupon code against the new perpetual license. There is not an additional discount for the upgrade pricing. However, as a long time user, you shouldn't buy an upgrade since you have the older licensing.
Hope that clears things up...?

UPDATE: Evidently a number of our existing users didn't get the email with the coupon code to use at the Autodesk store. Seeing how it has been shared elsewhere online, I got permission to post it here on the forum. It's now at the top of this post (coupon code: TSPLINE). Enforcement of the coupon usage is solely through trust - if you've bought a copy of T-Splines in the past, please use it! If not, please pay full price.

Sincerely,
Matt

Been following this thread, seems like a bit of a car crash this upgrade?

Like others I have not had any email, but Matt you seem to be suggesting that anyone can use that code to get a 70% discount? If so, that is just crazy, I struggly to believe that Autodesk dont have registered users serial codes and details to issue individual codes?

Someone mentioned this earlier but it wasn't answered. Can you still install T Splines on a second machine? I have it on a desktop and laptop. This is kind of an important issue for many of us.

Matt, you said that you are looking at the issues around the price differential between upgrading and the 70% new license discount? What is happening with that? If I buy now (on the 70% new license "upgrade") will I get a refund on the actual upgrade cost at a later time?

I would just like to know if this pricing revision will be happening imminently or not, in which case I might as well wait and buy the "upgrade" when things have all been fixed.

Also, can you clarify the situation with regards to a second activation on a laptop?

HI there,

Just to continue on from Bathsheba's comments...tsskin is now not working at all? I am getting errors every time I attempt to use the command.

Will this be rectified in a fix or update? I have used before in earlier versions and demos but seems to be completely incapable of completing the command now. The initiation of the command is fine...the preview seems to work but "OK" crashes the command.

Hi Kevin,
Yes, sorry I thought I'd responded to this question earlier. Yes you can install T-Splines on a second machine still with the Autodesk licensing.

The 70% code is for use by current T-Splines customers to get a discounted version of v4.

Rupert,
Correct it is not working today - as to whether it will be fixed - it is certainly a priority - as Tom mentioned earlier now that we are a public company, there are rules that prevent us committing to future enhancements or development. If this is critical functionality for you you might want to hold off getting v4 until you see it in the product.

Olivier,
You will not be able to use an upgrade license to v4 because it requires an Autodesk v3.5 license to be entered in before it will let you use it. You don't have a v3.5 license (which uses the ADLM license scheme); you have an older v3 license which uses the RLM license scheme, which we used before we were acquired. So you should buy a new license using the coupon. :).

Cheers Matt,

Yeah actually I have tried a few different combination as far as option in the dialogue box and I seem to be able to get it to work....will have to try a few more time to get a combination that work. So, conclusion is that is works when the correct combination of options is selected.

Will update here when I figure out an appropriate workflow.

Hi Bathsheba. You can send questions about tsSymmetry directly to me if you like, and if I'm not the best person to answer them I'll forward them on. My email is tom.finnigan@autodesk.com

A slight update about tsSkin, I've tracked down some of the problems to a change in our linear algebra library. Some operations that were mathematically poorly-defined are handled differently, which caused the crash. I've gone ahead and fixed that in the code, but there are still bugs due to interaction with the new crease type.

If you have a curve network that you want to use V4 for, it should work if you increase the spans on any curve to at least 2. Having only 1 span per curve will crash the command. But I'd still recommend not upgrading until it's been completely fixed.

TL;DR: I'm working on fixing tsSkin and have made some progress, but it's not quite there yet.

Hi Matt,

I'm another of the older users with version 3.4 (ie pre Autodesk)

I purchased an upgrade to V4 and now of course can't activate it due to not having an Autodesk serial number.

As I understand it, I have to get a refund, purchase the full version with coupon code then proceed from there.

My questions are:

1/. Who do I contact for refund?
2/. Do I have to uninstall the upgrade, then install the full version?

Cheers, Steve

Thanks for your note.
1. To return your upgrade, go to the store.autodesk.com home page, Click Help on the top menu, scroll to the bottom and click "Contact customer service."

2. I don't think you need to uninstall - it's the same installer, just a different license.

Hi Matt ...
I am also one of the very old fan and user from v1 from Denmark...
I bought a new computer in januar.
And for this I bought at Autodesk store the 19 Januar 2015 a 64 bit T-Splines Plug-in for Rhino.
Order Number: 9556927459 for 160.00 Euro with my WAT number.
Now I have discovered that you have released v4 the same day !!!
but there was no advertising about that, on the US site or Europian site where I bought it.
I have downloaded the v4 trial, and like it very much what you have done ...
But I think it is unfair ... if I must spend another 160.00 Euro to get it right.
what do You think about it ?

current installed build is: 3.4 r8555 (64)

I'm based in the Netherlands, so, i will use either Autodesk EU store or German store.
Could you please email me the discount code.

Hello, I bought V4 from Autodesk, thanks for the code Matt !

For the others who want to buy, it was not so simple :
- I wasn't able to purchase with internet explorer, I used Firefox, but maybe it works with Opera, or other.
- I still don't know the exact price : tva included, it changed between the different buying steps, 257 €, 264, and 214 €. I guess I have to wait for my bank Statement :).
- I have to download a software ( Akamai ) to download Tsplines.
- The first download link they give seems to be for Solidworks, you should pay attention...
- Then I have to wait for the activation code before trying my new toy :).
- The link is available 30 days, I didn't find how to do if I want to install on a new computer, in 2 or 3 years.

As I saw, I have to uninstall V3 before install V4, is that correct ?

Hi Allan,
It's good to hear from so many old users - it feels like coming back to old friends - though I'm sorry that the topic of conversation (upgrade details) is so tedious.

I believe you may be able to get a refund on your purchase if it is inside 30 days, I know at least that has worked for people buying the wrong upgrade: To return your purchase, go to the store.autodesk.com home page, Click Help on the top menu, scroll to the bottom and click "Contact customer service."

Let me now if that works for you.

I bought T-Splines 3.5 after 3 july 2013. I dawnloaded trial TS v4. If I try activate it with using my serial number from v 3.5, with different product keys (A46F1 and A46G1), It's inform me that my serial number is not valid. Should I have new serial number? How to get it?

Hi, v4 is a paid upgrade; you need to purchase this at store.autodesk.com.

Hi Marco,
Matt Sederberg wrote: * If you bought T-Splines before 3 July 2013, you can buy T-Splines v4 at a 70% discount (close to the same price as an upgrade) at the Autodesk Store (using coupon code TSPLINE) or through your authorized reseller. This discount is available until July 15, 2015.

Users who purchased T-Splines for Rhino before 3 July 2013 should not purchase an "upgrade" license. Instead, purchase a "new" license and use the coupon code.

This is because only users who purchased after 3 July 2013 will have a serial number that works in v3.5, and this serial number is required to activate an upgrade copy of v4.

If you are unsure, run the tsInfo command and look near the top next to "Build". If you are not currently using v3.5 then do not purchase the upgrade. If you are using v3.4 or older then you should purchase a new license and use the coupon code quoted above.

Hello,
I bought the full version of V4, I had version 3,4 previously.
I'm using Matrix v8.
When loading Rhino 5 I don't see the new version of tsplines, should I deinstall version 3,4?
Will V4 works on Matrix8?
Thanks for the answer.

Dear T-Splines team,

I want to propose getting T-Splines license in company that I work in. Since It is Autodesk product now I have asked local reseller about Network License and - BIGGEST PROBLEM - is it permanent (like T-splines before Autodesk), or is it subscription (like other Autodesk products) and what updates of T-splines are included in each of them (for example: buy 4.0 and get future service packs 4.1, 4.2 etc? but for 5.0 you have to pay, or pay for every update?). NO ONE can answer this question. Answer is Autodesk team in Europe DO NOT KNOW. Most of Autodesk resellers don't know what is T-Splines ...

So maybe I could get anser here - will I get 4.1, 4.2 and other updates when they will be out if I have bought 4.0? Is it permanent license? Do I have to pay to get 5.0 upgrade when it will be out?

Best Regards

Hi Matt --

On February 6th I purchased an upgrade to my T-splines through Novedge, where I originally purchased T-Splines. Since that time, I have not received any instructions on how to download the upgrade. After waiting a week I checked with Novedge on the status and they said it was in the hands of Autodesk. So, i filed a query with Autodesk, but have only gotten a computer generated acknowledgement saying that they had opened Case number 10457336.

What should I do to get my update? Should I cancel my order with Novedge and order directly from Autodesk, or should I just wait?

It seems that a simple upgrade should not take over 10 days to process. So, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Andre,
Yes, I would uninstall v3.4. To clarify, v4 only works on Rhino 5 64-bit.

V4 is not integrated into Matrix 8 yet.

Hi Lukasz,
Thanks for your interest. This is a permanent license, not subscription. You will get service packs like v4.1 for free. Major new versions would require payment.

Yuck, sorry Jerry. You're right it shouldn't take this long. I'm not sure what Novedge would be waiting for Autodesk for, if you wanted to have the contact me directly about any issue they are having (they have my contact info :)) I'm happy to sort it out for them.

Hi Matt --

I do not think that Novedge has any issues -- they merely placed the order for me with Autodesk. The problem is that I have not heard anything from Autodesk, either in response to my Feb 6th order, nor to my follow-up query. I guess if I don't get download instructions in the next day or two, I will simply cancel my upgrade order and hopefully get a refund.

So, Matt when is the price going to be equal independently where you live and work?
I checked today and If I could buy it in the States I would pay 200usd for an upgrade (from 3.4 before 3/7 2013) but I would have to pay almost 86usd more if I would buy it in Europe on the other hand if I buy it in Gbp I pay 153 but that's still more than I would have to pay in Usd. Now I cant buy it at the US site of Autodesk, being redirected to either the European site or if I choose the UK or DE site...It would be a lot easier if there was just one option buying it directly from Autodesk main site (since it is a download license only) and not from different country sites.
Is it going to be equal or not?

Hi Per,

This issue comes up quite frequently here. If you are interested in responses, please search through these old discussions.

However, this isn't really an appropriate topic for this forum. Nobody here, including Matt, has any control over international pricing. This forum is intended to focus on the technology and usage of the plug-in: Modeling in Rhino.

This issue would be better directed to Autodesk sales.

Hi Nicholas
I have search and read this thread and the forum and in this thread Matt says that it will be handle and as I understood it, he will address Autodesk with this issue. And as I can see, Micha who also asked this question has not yet been addressed. Further I did not get any answer from Autodesk. And since it is your product where else should I go?!
I dont think it is inappropriate to ask this question here and as a long time user of TS I think its not nice of you to tell me to go somewhere else!
I thought that Matt would update us user about this since he says so, in this thread!
Not that I would get an irritable comment from you.

Hi Per,

I'm sorry that you feel that I was not giving you a helpful answer. Honestly, though, I was just trying to help. Nobody on this forum, not even Matt, sets pricing, especially international pricing differences. What Matt has said he will try to get fixed is the difference in pricing between Upgrade pricing (from v3.5) and Coupon pricing (for users of v3.4 and earlier).

This isn't the same issue as the difference between prices in the United States and Europe, for example. I wish I could help you with this issue, but I simply can't. I wasn't trying to "tell you to go somewhere else", I'm just trying to tell you that this is not the right place for this issue. This is a forum for discussing the plug-in and how it works. We don't sell the plug-in on this site, and even this thread was only meant to point out that there was a new version.

I will poke Matt and see if he has any news about Upgrade vs. Coupon pricing.

Hi again Nicholas
And thanks for reply.
I like to think of us that uses Rhino and its many great plug ins as a kind of family...And when dragons dont hear us we still have each other.
So, thanks for poking Matt and I know that this forum is for the ins and outs of TS, but we sure like it to be easy also to buy the sw.
I was prompted of Matt to wait until the price matter was cleared, so it was just a question if it had!?
I wish you a good weekend and thanks for your understanding

Hi Per,
Sorry, I've been travelling over the past couple of weeks. Thanks Nick for the poke :).

I was able to get the pricing sorted out so that "discounted new versions" for our long-standing users are essentially the same prices as "upgrades" for users who purchased after we had Autodesk licensing in the product, which had been our original intent. As Nick notes, I'm not able to impact the differences in international pricing, sorry about that. The pricing is now as "equal" as it will be for v4.

Thanks for your patience,
Matt

Hi, I'm currently using Tsplines 3.5 and would like to upgrade it to v4. I live in South Korea and have contacted all the resellers in Korea from the Autodesk official website but none of the resellers can help me upgrading Tsplines. Is there any way that I can upgrade my software in South Korea? I tried to use the official autodesk website but cannot even go into the online shop page. Instead, it's keep saying that I need to contact the reseller in Korea :( By the way, most resellers in Korea do not even know what 'Tsplines' is. sigh....Please help. Thank you.

Hi Mirek,
T-Splines for Rhino is on the standard Autodesk price list for distributors and is in "open distribution." If you contact any Autodesk reseller in Korea they should be able to sell you that product - let me know if you continue to have concerns. Thanks!

So I just purchased T-Spline following the email I received in January from Autodesk. The download file is a problem though. It’s of unknown format. I can’t run it as it lacks executable .exe. For your information the file size is shown as 64, 828 KB. Any idea what’s the problem might be. Faulty download...? But I already tried downloading it 3 times....

Hi Paper Lab,

What is the name of the file that you downloaded? It should be "TSplines4.0_r11183ForRhino.exe" and the size should be 64,908 KB (or 66,465,120 bytes). Here is a direct link to the file.

Please note that v4 is for Rhino 5 64-bit only. So if you are not running a 64-bit version of Windows you will not be able to install it and if you don't have Rhino 5 64-bit you will not be able to use it.

Thanks Nick,

The file I’ve got is “Autodesk_Tspline_Rhino_2015_English_Win_64bit”.
I used coupon provided in the email I received in January and the Autodesk store link gave me that file. The current build I’m using is 3.4r8555(64) so yes 64 bit is what I need...

Your file is good except I can’t install it because for some reason I’ve never received product key. BTW the serial number I’ve got when buying 3.4 is still okay ( Jan 2014 ). This time though all I received from Autodesk store is purchase confirmation.

Hi Matt,

In Europe, it seems to be impossible to get an upgrade to TSplines. There's no upgrade option on the Autodesk store and there is no place to put in your code. Why is it that we cannot get a link from the existing license to directly get on the correct sales page and pay for the new license.

I'm looking forward to running the new grasshopper integration, thanks!

Thanks,

It seems that you need to install the latest Rhino 5 Service release in order to work...

Hello,
I just downloaded T-Spline V4 with the educational license.
Everything works well except the fact that I don't see the T-Spline component in grasshopper.
I tried looking for the gha file and couldn't find it.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I've downloaded the T-Spline plug in build 4.0 r11183 with the educational license.

Everything works fine except the fact that I don't have the T-Spline plug in grasshopper.
I even tired searching for the gh file, and could find anything.

Any ideas on how to fix this?
