How can I use T-Splines to make this more organic?

How can I use T-Splines to make this more organic?

Postby Rupes » Wed Jul 25, 2007 3:22 am

Hi,

Following on from my post on the Rhino NG http://news2.mcneel.com/scripts/dnewsweb.exe?cmd=article&group=rhino&item=263867&utag=

Image

I am trying to develop a more stylish logo in Rhino - I'm pretty happy with the concept, but really want this to look more organic - i.e. the T-Splines 'look'!

I'm sure this can be done, and assume it would involve generating some extra curves and using TSkin, but once again I am baffled by the workflow...

I've attached the polysurface - the construction stuff is also in there - can anyone help get me started or point me in the right direction?

Many thanks - Rupert

Hi,

Have a look at this:

http://www.tsplines.com/rhino/jewelry.php

The tsSkin command with no fitting should get you there.

Hi Ricardo,

Thanks for the link - that really is some incredible work!

I can see the workflow more clearly now - although I'm still not clear on how to judge where to place the transverse lines accross the main profile curves when creating the cage?

I will have a play around later and come back with some more specific questions...

Thanks for your help R

I added a t spline object and the box model it came from. Obviously it needs much tweeking to get it to resemble the intent of the original logo.
I would be curious if this tspline object can be "beat into shape" or if another approach is needed.

Thanks for this - I am getting a much clearer idea of the development process now - I dont think 'beating this into shape' is necessarily the answer - perhaps a more detailed cage is needed...

Will try all this later when I get 5 mins...

Hi Rupert,

This is similar to Dave's, as you can see with more polylines on the input and keeping the input cage closer to the shape of the final model you are able to more closely resemble the intended shape. You can also notice on the smaller bottom shape how I used some T-Junctions to give a bit more local detail on the top. This is coming from an internal build that identifies T-Junctions; this build will be released in a couple of days. Currently, these T-Junctions won't be recognized and tsSkin will turn them into extraordinary points. BUT we'll get this improvement out as soon as possible.

Hi Matt - that is looking sweet! Exactly the kind of thing I had in mind...

I want to be able to produce this myself so going to have a good play when I get a chance and try to enhance the concept but thanks very much for the effort :)

p.s. I forgot to send u that Ppt - but I have remembered now...
