T-Splines v3 Beta 2 available

Postby TomFinnigan » Thu Mar 17, 2011 3:19 pm

T-Splines v3 Beta 2 is now available.

T-Splines v3 Beta 2 has known bugs and we would not recommend it for commercial use. However, if you would like to try out the new features, we would welcome your feedback to help us shape the final look of v3!

If you have a T-Splines v2 for Rhino license, you can download the latest v3 Beta.

If you don't yet own T-Splines for Rhino, you can purchase a license today. You will get a free upgrade to v3 when it is released.

Requirements:
  • A T-Splines v2 license
  • Rhino v4 SR8, or Rhino v5 2011-02-01 (32 or 64 bit)

Important notes:

New in Beta 2
  • There's a new HUD. It shows as a small tab in the viewport, as well as a dockable window. There are settings available from the _Options window. One new option is dynamic volume display.
  • The tsInfo command has been added. tsInfo brings up information about the current version, the license and updates.
  • Licenses can now be deactivated. To transfer a license to another computer, run ths tsInfo command and click the "Deactivate License" button. An internet connection is required. If deactivation succeeds, your activation key can be used to activate on another computer.
  • tsQuadball is a new primitive that approximates a sphere with a meshbox.
  • tsFromLines now always outputs a box-mode T-Spline. If you want to set t-points you can use tsLayout. If you want to set creases you can use tsCrease.
  • Border Edge UVNs are more consistent - U is always along the edge.
  • tsMerge selection of coincident edges is improved.
  • Deleting edges next to stars now behaves more predictably
  • Fixed a bug with whole-object selsets not replaying properly
  • SubdivideFaceExact was sometimes not exact near borders with smartgrips. This is now fixed.
  • Fixed several crashes with deleting edges.
  • Licensing fixes
  • Fixed several tsMatch bugs
  • Fixed a nurbs conversion bug

Here's a quick video of the new HUD:

New in Beta 1
  • Major stability improvements
  • Tweak to manipulator, should hopefully not jitter as much in View mode
  • v2 Toolbar is now available (use Rhino's _Toolbar command to show it)
  • Made more of the commands translatable

Improvements made during the work-in-progress stage of T-Splines v3

Below are videos that demonstrate some of the new v3 WIP features. You can change the resolution by clicking on the "360p" after you start the video. Please leave any comments or suggestions about v3 in this post.

Tom -

Is it still possible to get the classic HUD?

Sky,

There's no way to turn on the previous HUD style, and most likely there never will be. The fact is that the old HUD didn't always work properly on every video card and, more importantly, every time we added a new feature it kept getting bigger and taking more screen space. We couldn't really continue with the old HUD design.

However, the new HUD is very customizable. Give it a good try before you give up on it. :)

If you prefer the text style, you can get something very similar to the old HUD by clicking the :tsOptions: icon in the new HUD window to bring up the HUD options (or run _Options and open up "T-Spline HUD Options"). Enable the break on text option and then turn on only the text options for the HUD. This gives you a clickable text-only HUD that is very similar to the old one.

But try the icons! I turn on about 5 of my most-used options and then dock the new HUD above the layers panel. It stays out of the way and serves me better than the old HUD ever did.

Hope that helps,
-- Nick

I see from the download link that I was emailed that this new beta is only for 32-bit systems. Is there a new 64-bit version coming? If not, what am I supposed to do when v3 beta 1's temp license runs out in 2 days?

Sorry, that was a typo. The link in the email is to 64-bit version is for beta 2, not beta 1. We just fixed that typo. Thanks for the report!

I just posted a quick video about how to configure/use the new HUD, at the top of this thread.

Nick -

Thanks for the tip about docking it on top of the layer toolbar - that does seem to be the best place to put it. I've got it on text only now, but I'll play around with adding features and see how it goes.

In the HUD options (click the gear on the HUD window) at the bottom there's an option called "Current Selection Display".
