to try wip

Postby bobro » Thu Dec 16, 2010 8:05 am

Very interesting the webinar!
I have the v. 2.3 r6240 ( the last ?) but I'd like to try the wip 3...where I download this last wip? I will install the wip and I will have the wip operative one month or much? It's posible to return or change easily from v2 and wip 3 if I have problem with the wip?

Hi Bobro,

You can download WIP 3 here: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=30276

Each WIP has a license that expires after a month; before it expires we will release a new WIP (in fact, WIP 4 will be released today or tomorrow).

You can only have T-Splines v2 OR v3 installed at once; you can uninstall v3 and reinstall v2 if you have problems.

OR, if you are running Rhino 5 64-bit, you can have tsplines v3 installed on Rhino 5 64-bit, and T-Splines v2 installed with Rhino 4 at the same time.

Hi there!
This is my first post, so bear with me for any stupid questions...
I did exactly what You suggested (installing tsplines v2 for rhino 4 and tsplines v3 for rhino 5 64bit) and while this works, tsplines v2 under Rhino 4 is using the toolbars of v3.
Any thoughts?

Thank You and greetings, Norbert
P.S. Oh I forgot, I am using rhino and t-splines under bootcamp and/or parallels on a MacPro if that matters.

Ah i forgot another problem:

Switching between bootcamp and parallels makes tsplines "forget" its license.
I figured out how to copy/exchange the folder containing the license information, but it is still somewhat clumsy.
Is there a more elegant solution to this problem?
And by the way, is there a limit to how often I can activate my t-splines license?

Bye, Norbert

First, copying your license to the equivalent place in Parallels is probably the most elegant method. You could also activate it using the license key again, but I would worry that it might accidentally count Parallels and Bootcamp as two separate computers.

You can install a license any number of times on a single machine, but it will stop giving new activations on new machines after two installs (this is explained in the installer's license agreement, by the way, if you want more detail). If you need to move a license to a new machine, you can do so by contacting our support.

Norbert,

All virtualization software, like Parallels, must make "virtual" (software) versions of important hardware like your wired and wireless network adapters. If it didn't Mac OS X and Windows would fight for the same devices since they are running simultaneously and they are not built to share.

Boot Camp has complete control of the computer, so there is no need for any virtual devices.

This means that the T-Splines plugin running under Parallels will see the virtual hardware that Parallels has created and identify the computer using them. In Boot Camp, it sees the real devices and thinks it is seeing a different computer. And, in reality, the plugin is running on different computers: the "real" one and a "virtual" one created by Parallels.

In order for T-Splines to work smoothly under both Parallels and Boot Camp, you will need to activate the plugin twice, once for each "computer". It sounds like you've already worked out how to do this, so I won't go into details. I will note, though, that you can just copy the "ts_activated.lic" file to something like "ts_parallels.lic" or "ts_bootcamp.lic". Just be sure you use the ".lic" extension. There is no need to copy or swap out the entire folder.

Note that one activation key is good for two activations. So using the plugin on both Parallels and Boot Camp uses both activations.

Hi Adam and Nicholas. Thank you for your answers.

So this is more or less what I was thinking.
I recon that if I get into trouble (too many activations between bootcamp and parallels) I can contact support to solve the problem?

About the two licence files: can I put them both into C:\Programdata\TSplies\Rhino and t-splines will recocnize the right lisence (depending on if it's running under bootcamp or parallels)?

And have You got any advice for my problem regarding the toolbar confusion (see my first post).

Ciao, Norbert

Yes, if you need assistance with your license you can contact support and we'll help you out. We can help you reset a license if you are no longer using it, for example.

You can put both license files in the same folder and T-Splines will figure it out.

As for the toolbars, running v2 and the v3 WIP would cause some confusion with the toolbar files since both versions use toolbars stored in a file called TSplines.tb in the same location. Whichever version of T-Splines you installed last would write over the other version's toolbar file.

However, you can just install the T-Splines v2 toolbar wherever you'd like. I've attached the latest toolbar released with T-Splines v2. Just put this file wherever you'd like (if you rename it, you could even put it in the %ProgramData%\TSplines\Rhino\ folder along with the v3 toolbar), and then use the _Toolbar command to load it. You can also unload unwanted toolbars with the _Toolbar command.

Okay back to the same problems: after my windows 7 installation crashed and I had to reinstall I ran into trouble again with activating the license:
While under bootcamp activating was no problem in parallels I got an error message that no further activation is possible with my key.
Do I need to contact your support to reset my activation key or should I use the "deactivate licence"-button in the "options" dialogue and then reactivate again?
If so will I be able to activate twice or do I have to deactivate again every time I change between bootcamp and parallels?

Ciao - Norbert

Norbert -- contact support and request that we reset your license. One of your activations was probably lost when Windows 7 crashed.
