how to control a tspline plane with rhino line curves

how to control a tspline plane with rhino line curves

Postby Mariano412 » Tue Jun 21, 2016 11:45 am

Is there a way that i could draw my own line curves (simple or complex) on a tspline surface and use that curve to control the surface. For example if i drew a circle or hexagon on top of this tspline surface, can i use that curve to control the tspline surface? Because all i know how to do is control the surface using the grid. I tried the insert point and insert edge but i cant exactly draw perfect circles with it or draw certain desired shapes.

Hi Mariano.
No, you can't just draw the lines on a T-Splines and use that to control it... You may use, as you mention, tsInsertPoint to "draw" some control lines, but you can easily mess up with the topology resulting in non-wanted bumps and irregularities.

If your goal is to have a T-Splines surface with a specific control shape you need to construct a "custom grid". You can use mainly tsAppendFace tool for this (also extruding edges, tsWeld, and a whole bunch of tools available to construct each face until you have the desire "grid").
I made an example using the hexagon as a controller. Just made a grid with an hexagon included in the layout. Check the screenshot.

Hope this clarify.
Feel free to ask.
