tS 3.1 sluggish in edit mode V5 64

Postby alkrever » Tue Jun 14, 2011 12:29 pm

Hi: This happens in only 64 bit version. I've only installed the 64 bit 3.1 beta. V5 32 bit T-spline is the current stable verison.
1. Make a TS box, using mouse right click the perspective display around a bit. I find things moving along snappily. The TS manipulators a smooth as well.
2. Enter TS edit mode. Things still move around okay using Right click
3. Select face, vertex or edge mode and select a feature. Attempt any command.
4. Response becomes Extremely sluggish. Task manager shows a big spike in CPU usage.
5. Actually selected a mode; face, edge, vertex, causes the issue as well.
6. Also seems related to number of faces in the TS object. If I subdivide the box once everything slows down even more.

Yep, confirmed here and hopefully fixed already! Please give one of these builds a try:

Rhino 4 and Rhino 5 32-bit
Rhino 5 64-bit

Thanks for your help.

Yep...that's got it.

Out of curiosity what was going on with it?

all the best

Uh, I think it was an overly ambitious fix to an issue in T-Splines 3 that slipped through our test suites.

Yeah, there's a bit of code that remembers when a T-Splines command is about to start, and another one that remembers whenever a command finished successfully. We subtract stops from starts to get the total number of crashes (roughly). Some of the code wasn't being covered, but it ended up being used a little more heavily than we thought, and recording the starts/stops was taking way too much time. So we toned it down a little.

Kind of a dumb problem. Those of you who send usage statistics are sending us that information, which we use to help us spot stability problems that we haven't noticed in-house. It's really useful, so thank you to all who leave it turned on ;).
