Screen " jumping " when tsInsertPoint

Postby oliviertij » Sun Jan 01, 2012 8:36 am

Hello, I wish everybody an happy near year !

Something a little bit strange is happening when I execute the command tsInsertPoint.
That's obviously not a serious problem, but maybe it will interest your bugs hunters.
If not, I do apologize, I don't forget 3.3 is a beta.

So, at that moment, the rhino window is " jumping " a little, well, more " sliding ", as the move is from left to right, during a fraction of second, and after, the manipulator is hidden.
I hope it helps.

Cheers.

Huh. Sounds strange. :?:

I'll give this a look tomorrow. If you have a chance, can you post step-by-step instructions? Detailed instructions really help when we try to reproduce problems.

Hello M North.

I hope I do not misunderstand what you mean by step-by-step.

Whatever I did before, each time I tsInsertPoint, there's like a jolt. And after, the manipulator gets hidden.
Well, reading this, I see there's nothing more than I wrote before... Sorry.
This happens on one of my computers only, so I guess it's a material problem.
Do you need something else ?

Hmmm. I took a look and I'm still not clear what you might be seeing.

The only thing I can think of is that the manipulator does get disabled during tsInsertPoint because it can get in the way of the command. Perhaps the jolt you see is related to the manipulator disappearing? Not sure.

Perhaps if you could post a video I could get a more clear idea of what you are seeing?

Sorry I can't help more. :(

I'm really sorry, I don't have any idea of how to make a video...
The important is that neither Rhino nor Tsplines crash while I run the command.
So I think it'll more easy for me to get the habit of such a behavior, than learning to make videos.
I could make an effort if you tell me that it's important for you know, but if I'm the only one to get the problem, I guess you have other things to do.

Have a nice day.

So, it might be that the edit mode docking window is show/hiding automatically. If it's docked on the left or top, then that will cause your Rhino viewports to resize every time you turn on/off edit mode.

To test this theory, try running tsEditMode a few times. If the Rhino viewports are resizing, then that's probably the problem.

If it's not the problem, then the easiest way to do a video is with jing, available at http://www.techsmith.com/jing.html

If it is the problem, there are two ways to fix it. One is to move the docking window over to the right or bottom. The other is to disable the Auto-Hide option in the T-Spline Edit Mode options.

Let me know if this helps.. :)

Thanks for posting the video.

This is expected behavior and has to do with how docked windows work in Rhino and how they interact with the viewports when they disappear. See Tom's comments from earlier for some simple ways to change this. The easiest is to disable the autohide feature or change the docking location.

Yeh, it works !!!!

Thanks Tom ! I very happy I learn how to do, thanks to you :D .

What is strange is that normally, the image " jump " at the beginning is the command, and at the end, but when I record, it jumps only at the end.
And yes, your solution is good, when I move the docking window at another place, it's ok.
Just the manipulator get hidden.
But never mind, I'll use a hotkey. I guess you have many other important things to do...

Thanks once more for Jing.

Oups, you answered so quickly Nick, I was just writing this.
