Pick of the week
T-Splines is cool stuff. T-Splines combines NURBS and subds — sub-divisional surfaces — letting you futz with models as a single surface instead of a collection of patches. What it boils down to is that it gives you the type of free-form modeling tools you’d find in an animation package.

ACM SIGGRAPH honors graphics pioneer for work in animation Print E-mail
Dr. Tom Sederberg
ACM SIGGRAPH will award its 2006 Computer Graphics Achievement Award to Thomas W. Sederberg for his contributions to free-form deformation (FFD) and the use of algebraic geometry in geometric modeling. The Computer Graphics Achievement award is given each year for outstanding achievement in computer graphics and interactive techniques.
T-Splines and Sculptor Print E-mail
T-Splines was a natural solution for Optimal Solutions. T-Splines-based free-form deformation will allow Sculptor to accommodate high detail or extrusions in arbitrary areas of the mesh. This allows for a more accurate representation of the mesh, and also saves time by eliminating unnecessary control points from the ASD volume.
